A former West Yorkshire police officer has been slapped with an eight-week suspended jail term after making repeated silent calls to his ex-partner.

Silent Harassment After Break-Up

PC Ashley Barrett, who worked as a Specialist Operations Trainer at Carr Gate in Wakefield, was sentenced at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday (20 April). The court heard Barrett bombarded the woman with silent calls between October and November 2024, months after their relationship ended in January that year.

Denies Guilt But Gets Restrained

Barrett insisted he wasn’t behind the calls, blaming phone hacking or corruption. Despite his claims, he received a three-year restraining order to keep away from the victim.

Gross Misconduct Ban and Barred for Life

After an accelerated gross misconduct hearing on 21 April, it was revealed Barrett would have been fired if he hadn’t already quit. He is now on the College of Policing’s barred list, ending his police career for good.
