Deadly Skyline Wrecked by Police After Fatal Oldbury Street Race
A heavily modified Nissan Skyline tied to a deadly illegal street race in Oldbury has been smashed to smithereens by police. The dramatic destruction marks a landmark moment for the victims’ grieving families.
Skyline Crushed Following Horrific Crash
The iconic car, driven by Dhiya Al-Maamoury, was flattened in front of officers and heartbroken relatives on December 1. Imported and souped-up for street racing, the Skyline became a chilling symbol of tragedy after a horrific crash last November.
During the illegal race on Oldbury Road, Al-Maamoury lost control and ploughed into a crowd. Teenagers Ben Corfield, 19, and Liberty Charris, 16, were killed on the spot. Two others, Ebonie Parkes and Ethan Kilburn, sustained serious injuries.
Justice Hits Hard: Jail Time and Car Crusher
In November 2024, Al-Maamoury was jailed for 13 years and six months. Shortly after, police obtained a deprivation order to seize and destroy the deadly ride—sending a fierce warning to street racers everywhere.
“The car used in the deaths of Ben and Liberty will never be driven again. A dangerous car has been taken off the roads,” said Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Unit.
“The car was imported specifically for use in street racing, and I hope this sends a strong message that we won’t tolerate any illegal activity on our roads.”
Crushing Part of a Wider Crackdown on Street Racing
Police say the crushing is part of an ongoing West Midlands crackdown on dangerous driving and illegal street racing. The destruction of the notorious Skyline stands as a stark warning to reckless drivers who gamble with innocent lives for momentary thrills.
