A 39-year-old Hackney man, Beytullah Gunduz, has been found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder following a Met Police investigation into a shooting in Dalston, London, on 20 June 2025. Gunduz conspired to have a 37-year-old man shot outside a restaurant in a dispute linked to rival north London organised crime groups, leaving the victim with life-changing injuries.
Calculated Gun Attack
The shooting, which took place just before 11pm in Crossway, was caught on CCTV showing a white Kia Niro slowing, pulling alongside the victim, and firing one close-range shot. The attacker then fled, setting the vehicle on fire nearby. Forensic teams recovered a bullet and a petrol can at the scene.
Organised Crime Motive
Gunduz accused the victim’s family of supporting a rival gang and tried to extort £100,000 from them. Detectives revealed the shooting was part of a coordinated campaign of violence driven by gang rivalry in north London.
Investigation Breakthrough
Police used CCTV, phone data, and forensics to link Gunduz to the hitman who carried out the shooting. Analysis uncovered burner phone communications between 17 and 20 June, including around the time the petrol can was bought, proving joint enterprise and conspiracy.
Escape And Ongoing Search
The gunman fled to Turkey shortly after the attack and is believed to remain there. Gunduz will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 2 July as the Met vows to tackle gun crime and organised violence making London’s streets safer.
“Gunduz showed complete disregard for the safety of both the victim and the wider community,” said Detective Inspector Iain Wallace, who led the investigation.
