Big Lifeboat Drama at Brighton’s West Pier
On Saturday evening, lifeboats from Shoreham and Brighton rushed to the rescue after reports of a paddleboarder clinging to a buoy near Brighton’s West Pier.
Search Parties Scour the Waters
The all-weather and inshore lifeboats from Shoreham teamed up with the Brighton lifeboat for a thorough search between West and Palace piers. There was even an unconfirmed sighting of a second person in the water, thought to be helping the paddleboarder.
Despite the frantic effort, crews found no sign of anyone in trouble and were stood down.
Good Intent Behind the Call, Say Lifeboats
“Our all weather and inshore lifeboats were called to a report of a paddle boarder clinging to a buoy in the water by the West Pier, Brighton, on Saturday evening,” Shoreham Lifeboat said.
Brighton Lifeboat added on social media: “We launched last night to a report of a paddleboarder clinging to a buoy in the sea by the West Pier in #Brighton. Along with @SLifeboatRNLI we carried out an extensive search. Nothing untoward was found and the lifeboat crews were stood down.”
No injuries were reported, and rescuers praised the swift action and good intentions behind the emergency call.
