Major Crash Shuts Dartford Tunnel, Huge Delays on M25
A major incident has forced the closure of both tunnels at the Dartford Crossing tonight. Emergency crews, including paramedics and five fire engines from Essex County Fire and Rescue, are tackling a multi-vehicle smash between junctions 31 and 30 on the M25.
Chaos on the M25: Massive Tailbacks
Expect delays of up to two hours with queues stretching 8 to 10 miles. Traffic is crawling on the approach to the crossing, and surrounding roads are at a standstill. Kent Police confirmed the crash is an Essex Police-led investigation.
Latest Updates: Lanes Reopen but Traffic Gridlock Continues
As of 9:55pm, all lanes on the M25 anticlockwise between J31 and J30 near the Dartford River Crossing (A282) have reopened. However, congestion lingers on the A282 northbound, backed up past junction 2 of the M25.
To ease the pressure, the Dartford tunnels are being held intermittently to manage traffic flow. On the Kent side, traffic is currently stopped due to a broken-down vehicle, with Highways England crews on the scene.
