A Newport drug dealer has been jailed after police seized a large quantity of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine with an estimated street value of up to £88,000. Malachy Lothian, 20, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison following a police raid on a property on the Glan Llyn estate in Llanwern. Neighbourhood officers executed a warrant at the address in May last year and discovered a substantial quantity of controlled drugs. Police also seized £5,764 in cash, mobile phones and drug-related paraphernalia during the search.

Heroin, cocaine and crack seized

Lothian, of Spencer Way, Llanwern, Newport, was subsequently prosecuted over the drugs recovered. He previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, namely cocaine, heroin and crack cocaine. He also admitted possession with intent to supply the Class B drug cannabis. Lothian further pleaded guilty to acquiring, using or possessing criminal property. He appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Friday, August 7, where he was sentenced to three years and four months’ imprisonment.

Woman receives suspended sentence

A 41-year-old woman from the Birmingham area was also prosecuted following the investigation. She pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine, a Class A controlled drug, and received a suspended prison sentence. The convictions followed the work of neighbourhood officers who seized the drugs, cash and other evidence during the warrant at the Llanwern property.
