Frenzied Knife Rampage in Derbyshire
Logan Procter, 20, has been locked up for life after launching a brutal stabbing spree on his stepfather and the family dog. The savage attack unfolded at their home on Valley Road, Shirebrook, Derbyshire, on October 22 last year. In a shocking display of violence, Procter inflicted over 70 knife wounds on 57-year-old Christopher Owen and stabbed their Jack Russell, Poppy, 15 times. The court heard Procter did this because he wanted to feel “unique.”
Chilling Kill Lists and Weapon Stash
At Derby Crown Court, it emerged Procter kept a hoard of knives and samurai swords. He also maintained “kill lists” detailing targets from his home, work, and college, signalling his dark mindset. The top name on the home list? Christopher Owen. Prosecutor Maryam Syed KC revealed Procter told the 999 operator shortly after the attack, “I wanted to end so many lives. I planned to go off so much further than this.” His call was made with eerie calm as he recounted the dog’s screams and said he wished to make the pain quick.
Stepfather’s ‘Completely Innocent’ Victim
Judge Shaun Smith KC described the killing as “brutal, sustained and frenzied” and “unforeseen” by anyone close to the family. Despite the horror, no hostile words or ill treatment preceded the attack, said defence barrister Clive Stockwell KC. He portrayed Procter as a “vulnerable young man” suffering bullying and mental health issues. Stockwell added: “Christopher Owen was a completely innocent victim. Not for a moment does Logan seek to ascribe any blame or criticism of Mr Owen.”
Family and Police React to Tragedy
Detective Inspector Kane Martin praised the courage of Mr Owen’s family throughout the investigation but admitted the motive remains a mystery. “Procter has taken responsibility but never explained why. Mr Owen was entirely innocent,” he said. In a victim impact statement, Procter’s mother, Alison Owen, said: “Logan had never shown any form of anger or violence in all his life. The outcome brings me no comfort as I have lost everything dear to me – a precious partner, Chris, and my precious boy, Logan.” She described Mr Owen as “kind, protective, loyal and truly a beautiful gentleman.” Procter pleaded guilty to murder and received a life sentence, with a minimum of 20 years and 10 months behind bars.
