Bottle Bash on Busy Ride
A 27-year-old man from Oldham landed behind bars for 20 months after smashing a glass bottle over an Uber driver’s head during a bitter row about a detour. The drama kicked off on February 16 when Dmiko Berkley booked a trip in Warrington. Mid-ride, Berkley demanded a route change, but the driver refused, saying the detour had to be updated through the Uber app.
Violence Erupts After Driver Stops
Things took a grisly turn when Berkley suddenly said he was feeling sick. The driver pulled over on Statham Avenue to help. As the driver opened the rear door to assist, Berkley lunged, striking him over the head with a glass bottle before dashing into a nearby housing estate. Bloodied and shaken, the driver bravely called the police and tried to steer away from danger.
Swift Police Response and Guilty Plea
Officers soon found Berkley at his Oldham home and arrested him. At Liverpool Crown Court on April 7, he admitted wounding without intent and carrying an offensive weapon, blaming alcohol for his violent outburst. Justice was served with a 20-month prison sentence for the brutal attack that left the Uber driver injured and traumatised.
