Mass Evac at Barking High-Rise After Burning Smell Sparks Alarm

Fire Brigade Rushes to Scene in Early Hours

Emergency services swung into action at Mersea House on Harts Lane, Ilford, around 1am on Sunday after residents reported a strong burning smell. The building’s automated fire alarm also sounded, triggering a full-blown high-rise emergency response by the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

Building Emptied as Safety Is Top Priority

Fire crews wasted no time ordering a mass evacuation to get everyone out safely. Multiple fire stations sent teams to the scene to investigate the source of the alarm. Thankfully, no visible flames were spotted. Firefighters suspect a minor electrical fault or faulty appliance may be to blame, though investigations are ongoing.

Residents Keep Calm, No Injuries Reported

All residents were accounted for with no injuries reported, a relief in light of recent tower block tragedies. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“We responded swiftly to reports of smoke and a fire alarm sounding at Mersea House. Given the nature of the building, a high-rise response was activated. Crews carried out a full evacuation and a detailed investigation to ensure the safety of all residents.”

Fire Safety Reminder for High-Rise Dwellers

LFB urges residents to regularly check smoke alarms, avoid overloading sockets, and report any burning smells or wiring issues without delay. Anyone with concerns is encouraged to contact their housing provider or the London Fire Brigade’s community safety team.
