The Met Police are bracing for a hectic weekend across London. With public events, sports fixtures, protests, and ceremonial gatherings on the agenda, officers will be on high alert throughout the city.
Weekend Showdowns and Celebrations
Saturday’s lineup is packed:
- St George’s Day celebrations
- The first FA Cup semi-final at iconic 123
On Sunday, thousands will hit the streets for the London Mini Marathon and the full 1. Plus, football fans can catch the second FA Cup semi-final.
Met Police Ready to Crack Down
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine leads the policing operation. He said:
“This is the sort of weekend where London comes to life, as millions flock to enjoy the city and its events. Our job is clear: provide a reassuring presence, keep everyone safe, and react swiftly to any incidents.”
He warned that protests crossing into criminal activity will be met with firm action, especially from climate activists planning disruptions.
“We will keep a close watch on any attempts to cause serious disruption and act decisively against those intent on breaking the law.”
Public Urged to Stay Alert
The Met urges Londoners and visitors to stay vigilant. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to stewards, police officers, or by calling 999.
“No report is too small,” urged Deputy Assistant Commissioner Valentine. “If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to speak up.”
He also saluted the police and emergency service teams working round the clock this weekend:
“They’re here to keep you safe. If you need help, speak to them without delay.”
