Gambler’s Bankruptcy Nightmare: Carlton Johnson-Vaughton Banned from Borrowing for Nine Years
Carlton James Johnson-Vaughton, 48, from Westcliff-on-Sea, faces strict bankruptcy restrictions for the next nine years. Every time he tries to borrow £500 or more, he must reveal his bankruptcy status. This harsh punishment follows a doomed gamble with a £25,000 loan.
Loan Lash-Up: Fake Payslips and Gambling Gone Wrong
Back in March 2019, Johnson-Vaughton secured a £25,000 loan. Months later, he declared bankruptcy. An investigation by the Official Receiver unveiled his deceit: fake wage slips and false income claims helped him bag the cash with no real chance of repayment.
Shockingly, the entire loan was burnt through on gambling.
Ban Hammer: Nine Years of Restrictions and No Company Directorship
On 6 March 2020, the Secretary of State slapped Johnson-Vaughton with a nine-year Bankruptcy Restriction Undertaking (BRU). This means he can’t just borrow freely — lenders will be warned — and he’s banned from being a company director without court approval.
Official Warning: No More Free Pass for Fraud
Sallie Rose, Official Receiver, said: “Carlton Johnson-Vaughton cynically and dishonestly obtained credit, and squandered the funds on gambling, in the few short weeks prior to filing for his own bankruptcy. To protect the market from further abuse, we secured extended bankruptcy restrictions which will prevent him from borrowing money from unwary lenders in the future.”
