Massive 350-Tonne Load Sparks Overnight M25 and M1 Chaos

Motorists brace yourselves! A colossal 350-tonne, 50-metre-long piece of machinery is set to roll through the M25 and M1 this weekend. This beast is en route from Tilbury Port in Essex to Millbrook power station, Bedfordshire — a hefty 79-mile haul expected to cause overnight mayhem.

What’s Being Moved and Why It Matters

This gargantuan load is only the first of three massive transports planned for March. When installed, it will turbocharge Millbrook’s power station, transforming it into a peaking plant that kicks in during high electricity demand. The upgrade will boost power supply to roughly 150,000 homes, a vital energy lifeline for the region.

Road Closures and Delays: What Drivers Need to Know

  • The monstrous convoy leaves Tilbury at 17:45 on Saturday and should arrive by 06:15 Sunday.
  • Police will escort the convoy along the A13, then onto the M25 at Junction 21, before heading north on the M1 and exiting at Junction 13.
  • M25 shut between Junctions 21a and 19 both ways from 22:00 to 06:00.
  • M1 slip roads onto M25 at Junction 6a closed both ways 22:00–06:00.
  • A12 entry slip to M25 anti-clockwise at Junction 28 closed from 20:00 to 05:00.
  • Expect a 30-minute hold-up at Gallows Corner roundabout around 22:00 on Saturday.

Plan ahead and avoid the M25 and M1 overnight if you can. This hefty haul is crucial for the UK’s energy future — but it’ll hit your rush with some serious delays.
