Elderly Dementia Patient Rescued After Shocking Library Assault
Earlier this year, an octogenarian with dementia went to his local library to report a mugging. He claimed he was shoved to the floor and had his wallet stolen.
Police Visit Sparks Concern
Officers from the Cowes Neighbourhood Policing Team later visited his home, where he lived alone with his dog. Alarmed by his living conditions, PCSO Lisa Paul kept coming back over the next few days to offer support.
Dramatic Rescue After Unseen Fall
During an unexpected visit, Lisa found the man lying helpless on the floor, unable to move. It’s unclear how long he’d been down. She immediately called an ambulance, but he refused medical help at first.
Health workers checked on him the next day, and after he fainted again, he was finally taken to hospital. Meanwhile, Lisa visited twice daily to care for his beloved dog and kept him reassured with photos and videos.
Determined Efforts Save a Life
- Lisa contacted local groups to find temporary housing for the dog, securing shelter within four days.
- She regularly visited the man in hospital, offering vital emotional support.
- Working with healthcare providers and his letting agents, she helped find him a safer new home.
Lisa’s dedication didn’t just save this elderly man’s life — it changed it forever. Pictured with Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney and Superintendent Jim Pegler, she’s a shining example of police going above and beyond.
