Seventy Firefighters Battle Blaze at Brentford Recycling Centre
A massive fire tore through a recycling centre in Brentford, West London, on Monday, causing thick smoke to blanket the M4 motorway and trigger widespread delays. About 80 firefighters rushed to the scene on Transport Avenue after the blaze began just after midday.
Thick Smoke Chokes M4, Causes Traffic Chaos
The smoke was so dense it was visible from Heathrow Airport, six miles away. Motorists faced heavy delays on the M4 eastbound between Heston Services and junction 2 at Brentford as emergency crews battled the inferno.
Second Major Fire Hits North London
Meanwhile, another large fire broke out at an industrial unit in Bernard Road, Tottenham, near Seven Sisters Overground Station. Around 70 firefighters responded to the scene after the alarm sounded at 10am.
The blaze affected a row of single-storey units, with the largest measuring 30m by 10m (90ft by 32ft). The London Fire Brigade confirmed severe damage to half the ground floor and roof but has yet to determine the cause.
