Major Rail Chaos as Storm Warning Hits Scotland
The Met Office has slammed down amber and yellow weather alerts for heavy rain across northern Britain. In response, two huge rail firms—Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express—have urged travellers to steer clear of Scotland today.
Rail Services Suspended North of Preston
Avanti West Coast isn’t taking any chances. They’ve suspended all services north of Preston, throwing the network into disarray with major delays. TransPennine Express joined the chorus, warning passengers not to travel on any routes to Scotland amid dangerous conditions.
ScotRail has also jumped in, forecasting “significant disruption” and halting some routes to keep travellers safe.
Flood Fury Set to Batter Scotland
Scottish authorities have issued flood warnings ahead of what they call a “major rainfall event.” Parts of the Highlands could see between 150mm and 180mm of rain, with Network Rail warning of serious river and surface water flooding that will impact roads and infrastructure.
“A major rainfall event is expected, bringing significant prolonged heavy rain throughout Saturday over the Southern Highlands and western Central Belt, with more heavy rain in the north on Sunday,” warned Ruth Ellis, flood duty manager at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
She added: “This could cause danger to life, widespread flooding, road closures, and major disruption. Residents must take every precaution.”
