Huge Blaze Erupts at Recycling Plant – Lithium Battery to Blame!
100 Tonnes of Recycling Goes Up in Smoke
A massive fire ripped through a waste disposal site, torching around 100 tonnes of mixed household recycling. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Lithium Battery Sparks Major Fire
Fire chiefs are calling it an accident, blaming the blaze on a faulty lithium battery. These batteries, packed with energy in a tiny space, can easily overheat and ignite if not handled properly.
Fire Brigade Issues Urgent Safety Warning
“Lithium batteries should never go into regular bins with your rubbish or recycling,” warned a Fire Brigade spokesperson. “If they overheat, they can trigger fires.”
“Always check your local authority’s website for how to safely dispose of these batteries.”
“Overcharging, short-circuiting, water damage, or physical harm to batteries can all spark dangerous fires or explosions.”
Quick Response from Multiple Fire Stations
The Brigade was alerted at 12:46am and brought the inferno under control by 3:32am. Crews from Wandsworth, Battersea, Fulham, Chelsea, and Tooting joined the fight against the flames.
