Shock After 83-Year-Old Man Killed by Lorry on Lanark’s High Street
Tragedy hit Lanark on Monday afternoon when an 83-year-old man was fatally struck by an articulated Mercedes lorry on the A743 High Street. The crash happened around 2.50pm, leaving the community reeling.
Emergency Services Race to Scene, Victim Dies Instantly
Paramedics rushed to help but sadly, the elderly pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. The lorry driver, a man, escaped unharmed. Police quickly shut down the road for a full investigation, reopening it only at 7.30pm.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time,” said Sergeant Gemma Blackadder from the Motherwell Road Policing Unit. “We’re piecing together how this terrible collision happened and ask anyone who saw what happened to come forward.”
Officers are especially keen to hear from anyone in the area around A743 High Street at the time. Drivers with dashcam footage are urged to get in touch.
