Millions Poured Into Upgrading Pagham Wastewater Treatment
Southern Water is set to splash millions on major upgrades to Pagham’s wastewater treatment. The aim? Cleaner water pumped back into Pagham Harbour and a greener environment for all.
New Tech to Tackle Pollution and Climate Challenges
Starting early 2023, Southern Water and partners GTb will install fresh treatment equipment, tanks, and pumps at Pagham treatment works. The two-year project will boost capacity to handle wastewater from new homes and tackle rising stormwater flows thanks to climate change.
“This exciting project will make a real difference,” said Southern Water’s Project Manager Ben Gogan. “It also helps us plan for growth until 2035 as part of our ongoing £2bn investment to improve water quality and protect the environment.”
Big Savings by Upgrading Pagham, Avoiding Sidlesham Works
GTb Project Manager Michael O’Rouke-Jones explained the strategic benefits:
“Improving Pagham means we don’t need costly upgrades at Sidlesham, which also drains into Pagham Harbour. This saves huge sums while meeting strict nitrogen discharge targets.”
