Surrey Names Dan as Permanent Chief Fire Officer
Dan has officially landed the top job at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service after acting as Chief Fire Officer since June 2022. Before stepping up, he was the county’s Deputy Chief Fire Officer starting October 2019.
Surrey Stalwart with 23 Years’ Experience
Dan’s fire service career spans over 23 years, all with Surrey Fire and Rescue. He began as a firefighter at Leatherhead Fire Station back in 1999. His new appointment followed a rigorous interview process.
He’s also Vice-Chair of the UK Rescue Organisation, the leading body pushing professional rescue skills nationwide.
Dan’s Vision for Surrey Fire and Rescue
“I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as Surrey’s permanent Chief Fire Officer,” Dan said. “I look forward to building on the plans I put in place over the last few months as Acting Chief. Having served my whole career here, I know our strengths and where we need to improve.
“I’m dedicated to making Surrey one of the best fire and rescue services in the industry. And I know we have the people to make it happen.”
Local Leaders Back Dan’s Appointment
Council Leader Tim Oliver praised Dan’s leadership during his interim role, calling him “knowledgeable, experienced and approachable.” Oliver added: “I’m confident Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is in good hands as it continues its journey towards excellence.”
Cabinet Member for Communities Denise Turner-Stewart said: “Having worked closely with Dan for over 20 years, I’m thrilled he’s our Chief Fire Officer. His experience gives me great confidence that the safety of Surrey’s residents remains a top priority.”
