Climate Chaos Hits Scotland’s Oil Giants – 11 Arrested!
Protesters Shut Down Key Scottish Oil Sites
Climate activists from the group This is Rigged launched daring protests at two major oil sites in Scotland on Wednesday. Eleven demonstrators were arrested after targeting the Ineos refinery in Grangemouth and the Nustar oil terminal in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire.
The activists claimed to have blocked oil flow by occupying pipework, climbing fuel silos, and blockading terminal gates. They vowed on social media that this was just the beginning, promising to keep up pressure until the whole Scottish oil industry grinds to a halt.
Grangemouth Under Siege
Grangemouth, which pumps out 90% of Scotland’s oil, was hit hard. Protesters locked down pipework and silos while another group immobilised a tanker-filled car park — completely stopping fuel from leaving the site.
The actions also disrupted operations at the Nustar terminal, dealing a significant blow to Scotland’s energy supply chain.
Ineos Closes Terminal, Police Step In
An Ineos spokesman confirmed the Grangemouth terminal was temporarily closed to all traffic due to safety concerns. Manufacturing remained unaffected, they claimed, while working with police and incident teams to handle the situation.
“We remain committed to tackling climate issues and driving the transition to net-zero emissions and a circular economy,” said the Ineos rep.
Police Scotland confirmed multiple arrests at the Grangemouth site and said they are monitoring the protests closely, with safety as their top priority. Nustar has yet to comment on the chaos.
Climate Campaigners Demand ‘Just Transition’
This is Rigged says their protest marks the start of a sustained campaign urging the Scottish government to protect oil and gas workers by supporting a ‘just transition’ — rather than propping up billionaire bosses like Jim Ratcliffe, owner of Ineos.
As climate protests multiply, activists continue targeting oil and gas hubs to push for faster moves towards renewable energy and urgent action on the climate crisis.
