Tragic teenager drowns after night swim turns deadly

17-year-old Misses Surface After Entering Water

Police were alerted just after 10pm when a 17-year-old boy failed to resurface after jumping into the water. He had been with a group of five on Sunday night, some of whom dived in trying to find him.

Massive Search Effort Launched

The boy never reappeared, sparking a full-scale rescue operation. The National Police Air Service, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue, Severn Area Rescue Association, and Wiltshire Search & Rescue all joined forces. Officers scoured the water and nearby park with torches, while a helicopter hovered overhead.

Heartbreaking Recovery and Police Statement

Despite relentless searching into Monday, Avon and Somerset Police divers recovered a body from the river. Formal ID is pending, but the boy’s next of kin have been informed. Gloucestershire Constabulary offered condolences to the family and friends and said the death is not currently seen as suspicious.
