Tragedy as Teen Drowns in Riverside Search Operation

17-Year-Old Boy Vanishes Underwater

Police were alerted around 10pm after a 17-year-old boy failed to resurface following a swim in a local river. The teen was part of a group of five who had gathered at the spot on Sunday night.

Desperate Search Efforts Launched

Some members of the group plunged into the water trying to find the boy, but he never reappeared. A major search and rescue mission kicked off immediately.

The National Police Air Service, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Severn Area Rescue Association, and Wiltshire Search & Rescue all joined the hunt. Officers combed the water and surrounding park with torches as a helicopter circled overhead.

Body Recovered, Family Notified

Despite relentless efforts through Monday, specialist police divers from Avon and Somerset Police recovered a body from the river. Formal identification is pending, but the boy’s next of kin have been informed.

Police Offer Condolences, No Suspicion

Gloucestershire Constabulary expressed deep condolences to the family and friends affected by the tragedy. Officials stressed the death is not being treated as suspicious.
