Vanished Without a Trace: The 22-Year Mystery of Fisherman Neil Nortrop

Disappearance Shocks Brixham Community

Neil Nortrop went missing in June 2003, aged just 32. The fisherman and father of two left 123. He made one last call to his mother the next day — then vanished. Despite intense searches, Neil has never been seen since.

Known then as Neil McGarthland, he is muscular with cropped fair hair, blue eyes, several tattoos, and a distinctive scar beneath his left eye.

Decades Later – Still No Answers

More than two decades on, Neil’s disappearance remains a painful mystery. His mother died in 2024 without ever learning his fate. The heartbreak left her a recluse, refusing to move house, clinging to hope he’d return.

“We are searching for answers as to what happened to him so we can have closure,” Neil’s family said. “It is now 22 years on, and it feels like yesterday. We’re appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward.”

Family Fight to Keep Neil’s Memory Alive

Neil’s loved ones refuse to give up. Determined to honour his mother’s memory, they vow to keep the search alive. “We want to carry on her legacy,” they say. Anyone with tips is urged to help bring Neil home — or finally give his family the closure they deserve.
