Massive £8bn AWS Investment to Boost 14,000 UK Jobs

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has clinched a blockbuster £8 billion investment deal from Amazon Web Services (AWS). The deal is set to create about 14,000 jobs every year across the UK for the next five years. This bold move aims to turbocharge Britain’s economy, attract fresh investment, and lift living standards nationwide.

AWS Injection to Add £14bn to UK GDP by 2028

Confirmed last week during Reeves’ meeting with AWS, the £8bn cash injection will pump an estimated £14 billion into the UK’s Gross Domestic Product between 2024 and 2028. Jobs will trickle into local economies via AWS’s data centre supply chain, spanning construction, engineering, telecoms, and other key sectors.

Reeves Warns: Economic Revival Is Just Getting Started

Speaking from Silverstone’s University Technical College, Reeves hailed the deal but cautioned that the economic turnaround won’t happen overnight.

“Two quarters of positive economic growth does not make up for fourteen years of stagnation under the previous government,” Reeves said. “This £8 billion investment marks the start of the economic revival and shows Britain is a place to do business. The hard work to fix the foundations of our economy has only just begun.”

AWS Boss Backing UK Digital Boom

AWS Europe, Middle East & Africa Managing Director Tanuja Randery echoed the Chancellor’s confidence, promising the next half-decade will be pivotal for the UK’s digital and economic future.

“AWS is proud to announce our plans to invest £8 billion in digital and AI infrastructure over the next five years to help meet the growing needs of our customers and partners, and support the transformation of the UK’s digital economy,” Randery said.

Countdown to UK International Investment Summit

The investment announcement arrives just ahead of the UK International Investment Summit on 14 October. The event will showcase Britain’s attractive business environment and aim to lure more global giants to British shores.

Reeves remains focused on revitalising the economy, creating jobs, and ensuring the benefits reach every corner of the UK as the country gears up for a new era of growth and prosperity.
