Hero Teachers Save 16 Kids from Masked Killer at Taylor Swift Workshop
Two heroic dance teachers, Leanne Lucas and Heidi Barlow, both 35, risked their lives to protect 16 children from a masked attacker at a Taylor Swift-themed workshop in Southport yesterday. The terrifying attack left three children dead and several more injured.
Brave Teachers Fight for Lives After Brutal Stabbing
Leanne Lucas, a primary school supply teacher and children’s yoga instructor, had organized the yoga and bracelet-making session to kick off the school holidays. When the masked man broke in through an unlocked door, left open due to the heat, chaos erupted.
Despite suffering stab wounds herself, Leanne and Heidi managed to shepherd 16 of the 25 kids, aged 6 to 11, to safety. Tragically, eight children were injured — five remain in critical condition alongside the two brave women who shielded them.
Community Mourns as Toll Rises to Three Children
Merseyside Police confirmed a third young girl, aged nine, died early Tuesday morning. The other two victims who died at the scene were girls aged six and seven.
Relatives and friends are hailing Leanne’s courage. Pauline Bennett, 64, Leanne’s aunt, said, “She’s tiny and wouldn’t have stood a chance against a man with a knife, but she just wanted to protect those children. It all happened so fast. We’re praying she’ll be okay. Teaching kids is her passion—she’s dedicated her life to it.”
Local Community Rallies Amid Investigation
Leanne, who previously taught abroad in China and Dubai before returning during the pandemic, was a big Taylor Swift fan — she even brought a concert poster for the kids. Sunshine Yoga, where she trained, posted on Facebook: “Please pray for Leanne. She’s a beautiful, creative soul devoted to helping children. We’re devastated.”
The Southport community is in shock. Floral tributes, stuffed toys, and heartfelt messages continue to flood the scene as locals mourn the innocent lives lost.
A 17-year-old boy remains in custody, charged with murder and attempted murder. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the attack to come forward.
This tragic event has shaken Southport to its core but also highlighted incredible bravery. The stories of these two teachers’ selfless actions will not be forgotten.
