Fire Fury in Byfleet: Van’s Fuel Line Explosion Sparks Major Workshop Blaze
A terrifying fire has erupted at a single-storey car workshop in Byfleet after a van’s fuel line was accidentally hit during repairs, causing a dramatic explosion.
Six Fire Crews Battle Intense Blaze
Six fire appliances raced to the scene as thick smoke billowed skyward. Firefighters from Painshill, Woking, Walton, Esher, Guildford, and Chertsey teams joined forces to tackle the raging inferno. The Surrey Fire and Rescue Service warned locals to keep all windows and doors shut due to the risk of a further explosion from an Oxy Acetylene cylinder inside the workshop.
Road Closures and Traffic Chaos
Police swiftly closed Parvis Road in West Byfleet, along with Camphill Road, Pyford Road, and Highfield Road, causing traffic gridlock. Commuters are urged to seek alternative routes as emergency teams maintain a stronghold on the scene.
Explosions Heard as Fire Spreads
Witnesses described loud explosions, linked to a can of brake cleaning fluid caught in the blaze. The fire rapidly engulfed the van and spread to the workshop, feeding off waste oil also ablaze inside. Thankfully, all workers escaped unharmed, with nearby businesses evacuated as a safety precaution.
Firefighters Use High-Tech Tactics to Douse Flames
Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and deployed a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) to tackle the ferocious fire and prevent further flare-ups. The rapid response helped prevent what could have been a much worse disaster.
