High-Rise Horror: Balcony Blaze on 13th Floor

A fire tore through a flat on the 13th floor of a Lewisham tower at 4:10am, damaging most of the balcony and part of a four-room flat. The 20-storey Elmira Street building saw 180 people evacuated before firefighters even arrived.

Massive Response: 58 Firefighters Battle Blaze

Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters from Lee Green, Deptford, New Cross, Forest Hill, Lewisham, and nearby stations rushed to the scene. The brigade received 16 emergency calls before bringing the fire under control just over an hour later at 5:23am.

No Injuries but Investigation Underway

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Authorities are now combing through the wreckage to find out what sparked the early-morning blaze.
