Emergency services scrambled to a blazing flat on Selhurst Road, South Norwood just after midnight on Friday, December 23rd. Despite heroic efforts from police, paramedics, and four fire crews, a woman was tragically found dead inside the property.

Firefighters Battle Flames Through the Night

The London Fire Brigade received the call at 10:39pm and fought the fire fiercely until 12:20am. Fire engines from Woodside, Croydon, and Norbury stations rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze in a first-floor flat. Though a woman was rescued and rushed to hospital, she sadly later died.

Joint Police and Fire Brigade Investigation Underway

Specialist investigators from the London Fire Brigade are working alongside the Metropolitan Police to uncover what sparked the deadly fire. Authorities have sealed off the area, establishing a crime scene outside the flat as enquiries continue.

“Sadly, a woman has died following a flat fire on Selhurst Road, South Norwood,” a London Fire Brigade spokesman said. “Part of a first-floor flat was damaged by fire. A woman was rescued by firefighters and removed from the scene by London Ambulance Service crews. She later died in hospital.”
