Stalker who hid from cops locked up for over two years
A chilling stalker who went to great lengths to dodge arrest has been jailed for two years and four months. Charlie Brooker, 30, pleaded guilty to stalking and putting a woman in fear of violence at Maidstone Crown Court on 11 June 2018.
Relentless Abuse and Threats
Between 2017 and 2018, Brooker launched a terrifying campaign against a woman he knew. He bombarded her with threatening texts, emails, and online messages, ignoring her clear demands to stop. His vile threats included promises to throw acid in her face, knife attacks, and stamping on her head.
Brooker also menaced the victim’s partner and threatened to wreck her property. He even sent photos of her car parked outside her home in Maidstone and showed up uninvited at her workplace multiple times, desperate to make contact.
Desperate to Escape Justice
On one terrifying occasion, Brooker was spotted outside the woman’s home holding a craft knife. Once he realised police were onto him, he fled in December 2017, sold his car, and tried to hide from investigators. He even coldly phoned a police officer boasting he’d never be caught.
But persistent police work paid off. Officers finally tracked him down to a Sidcup address and arrested him on 12 March 2018.
Justice Served
Brooker, who now has no fixed address, was slammed in court and handed a hefty jail term. PC Thomas Moss, who led the investigation, blasted Brooker’s twisted behaviour:
“Brooker has shown himself to be a threatening and dangerous criminal. His persistent threats and abuse towards a vulnerable woman were both cowardly and sinister. He should be ashamed of his behaviour.”
The officer also praised the victim and witnesses for their courage and support in bringing the stalker to justice.
