Pervert Busted After Ten Groping Spells on South-East London Trains
James Gathercole Sentenced for Shocking Train Sex Crimes
James Gathercole, 36, from Beckenham, has been convicted of ten indecent exposure offences committed on trains across South-East London between December 2020 and November 2021. The pervert was jailed for 16 months and must sign the sex offenders register for a full decade after his conviction at Inner London Crown Court.
British Transport Police Crack Down on Serial Offender
Gathercole’s arrest came after a relentless British Transport Police (BTP) probe linked him to a string of disturbing incidents. Six of his vile attacks even happened in just one day. On 29 November, an off-duty Met Police officer stepped in when a terrified teenage girl reported Gathercole exposing himself and touching himself inappropriately on a train at New Cross station. BTP officers swiftly handcuffed the predator and locked him up.
Six Attacks in One Day: Horror on the Rails
The court heard how Gathercole struck multiple times on 7 August 2021, exposing himself to young women and teenage girls traveling between New Cross Gate, Lewisham, and Sydenham stations. His repeated vile behaviour caused real trauma for his victims.
BTP Detective Warns of Danger to Women and Girls
“It’s clear from Gathercole’s persistent and sickening actions that he is a danger to women and girls,” said BTP Detective Constable Sonja Lucas. “I’m pleased this serial offender can no longer roam free on our railways. No one should have to face such vile behaviour when they simply want to travel safely.”
