Crash Outside Queensgate Primary Shocks Locals

A school child scooting home was knocked down by a van in East Cowes this afternoon. The smash happened on Beatrice Avenue, just yards from Queensgate Primary School, shortly after the school day ended.

Paramedics Rush to the Scene

Isle of Wight Ambulance Service paramedics treated the child at the scene before rushing them to hospital. Fortunately, police confirmed the youngster’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Road Shut Briefly as Police Investigate

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary were called at 3.15pm and closed Beatrice Avenue for a short time while they probed the crash. The road has now reopened.

“A van and a child on a scooter were involved,” said a Hampshire police spokesperson. “The child did not suffer life-threatening injuries.”
