Brutal Attack in High Street Shop

Marc Bell, 30, from Burton-upon-Trent, has been locked up for 14 years after stabbing a man with a broken glass bottle. The shocking attack happened inside a shop on High Street on 17 December 2024. Bell tried to steal items by stuffing them in a bag but was confronted by the shopkeeper. A violent fight erupted. In the chaos, Bell smashed a bottle on the floor and stabbed the victim in the stomach.

Desperate Escape Foiled by Police

After the stabbing, Bell fled to a nearby restaurant to change his clothes. He even tossed his discarded outfit into a bush, but it wasn’t enough to throw off the police. Officers tracked him down and arrested him swiftly. While in custody, Bell punched a detention officer through the custody hatch, landing an assault charge along with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Vows Justice for Victims

“Bell caused his victim serious injuries and despite running away and changing his clothes, he was arrested shortly after. The attack was violent and spontaneous and I hope this sentence shows we are committed to protecting victims across Staffordshire.” – Detective Constable Reece Hingley, CID
