Two Years On: Tragic E-Scooter Killing Still Unsolved
Alexander Kareem, just 20, was gunned down in cold blood in Shepherd’s Bush during the early hours of June 8, 2020. The young man had stopped at an off-licence before riding his e-scooter to a friend’s house when shots rang out on Askew Road.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a man with gunshot wounds at around 12:40 a.m. Despite their best efforts, Alexander was pronounced dead on the spot 45 minutes later.
Family Pleads for Justice as Killers Still at Large
Two years later, the murderers remain free, leaving Alexander’s family devastated and desperate for answers.
“It feels wrong to mark this kind of anniversary,” said Alexander’s sister, Khafi. “Wedding days and birthdays should be celebrated — not the date my brother was senselessly killed. His murderers are still out there and that’s not acceptable.”
“I used to have three brothers, now I have two. That pain never eases — it’s like a dagger every time it hits.” Khafi added how shootings of young black boys, like those in Owo and Uvalde, hit painfully close to home.
How It Happened: Mistaken Identity Murder
Investigators believe Alexander was the victim of mistaken identity. His killers reportedly drove past in a white Range Rover and opened fire. Just 25 minutes later, the vehicle was found burned out three miles away on Ascott Avenue.
Over 20 officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have poured through hours of CCTV footage and continue to hunt for witnesses.
Police Vow to Catch Cold-Blooded Killers
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, leading the case, said: “It’s been two years, but we won’t stop until justice is done. Alexander didn’t deserve this, and his family’s heartbreak is made worse knowing the killers still roam free.”
The police urge anyone with information — no matter how small — to come forward. Calls to 101 referencing CAD 224/08Jun20 or Crimestoppers (0800 555 111) can be made anonymously and confidentially.
This is your chance to help bring peace to a grieving family and ensure Alexander’s killers face justice.
