A Sunderland man caught on camera kicking a police sergeant in the back during weekend protests in central London has been convicted of violent disorder.

Daniel Allan Pleads Guilty After Viral Video Evidence

Daniel Allan, 35, of Ridley Terrace, Sunderland, admitted the offence at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 June. Allan had travelled to London for demonstrations in Parliament Square on Saturday, 13 June.

At around 3.15pm, he was filmed delivering a savage kick to a Met officer in Bridge Street, knocking the sergeant to the ground. The shocking footage quickly went viral on social media, making Allan easy to identify thanks to his distinctive coloured clothing.

Quick Police Action Leads to Arrest

Officers from City of London Police arrested Allan shortly after the incident. He has been formally charged with violent disorder and awaits sentencing.

The injured sergeant suffered bruising to his back and is currently recovering at home.

“Allan’s shameful actions were totally unacceptable and I am pleased that he has been convicted,” said Detective Constable Steve Nicholls of the Central West Command Unit. “This swift justice should also be a warning to others who came to central London on Saturday with the sole purpose of causing violence. Police officers are not punching bags.”

He added that several investigations are ongoing to track down others involved in violence or assaults on officers during the protests.

Detective Nicholls also thanked the City of London Police for their crucial help in making the arrest.
