Mother and Son Found Dead in Tower Hamlets Home

An inquest has been set following the tragic deaths of Yulia Gokcedag, 35, and her seven-year-old son Timur in Tower Hamlets.

Shock Discovery at Isle of Dogs Address

Police forced entry into their Lockesfield Place home at around 3:20am on Thursday, 13 August, after concerns for their welfare. Officers found both unresponsive and declared them dead at the scene.

Cause of Death Revealed

  • Yulia died from hanging.
  • Her son Timur died from drowning.

The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command launched a full investigation but confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection to the deaths.

Next Steps: Inquest Scheduled

The inquest into their deaths will be held at Poplar Coroners’ Court on Wednesday, 16 December. Both had been reported missing to police the day before their bodies were found.

Police have also notified the Directorate of Professional Standards, with a referral made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. The local professional standards unit is currently investigating the handling of the case.
