High Court Bailiffs and Police Evict Squatters from Mile End Road

High Court bailiffs teamed up with police to evict a group of 20 squatters from two Transport for London-owned properties on Mile End Road. The eviction took place just after 5:30am today.

Early Morning Eviction on Mile End Road

The group had been squatting in the buildings since the COVID-19 lockdown. Transport for London secured a possession order to regain control of the premises. Despite the order, squatters resisted the eviction.

Squatters Claim Legal Loophole

Squatters argued that the possession order was incorrectly filed, insisting the owners should have applied for an interim possession order instead. They understood the deadline to vacate was after August 25 but stayed until today’s eviction.

Bailiffs Break In, Squatters Leave Peacefully

Bailiffs used sledgehammers and battering rams to gain entry but the squatters, including two dogs, left peacefully without incident. Approximately 18 people vacated the building following the operation.

Eviction Notice Posted at the Property

A notice pinned to the front door ordered: “All persons in occupation of the property must vacate the land forthwith.”

This eviction marks a firm crackdown on illegal squatting in the Mile End area.
