Builder Boots Man’s Head in Savage Attack – Jailed for 8 Years
Unprovoked Assault Leaves Victim Seriously Injured
A Sevenoaks builder who repeatedly stamped on a man’s head with steel toe-capped boots has been locked up for eight years. Russell Walton, 45, launched a brutal, unprovoked attack on a man he knew during a business meeting in April 2020.
The victim suffered multiple injuries after Walton violently knocked him to the ground and delivered relentless kicks to his head and body. Despite the victim curling up in a bid to protect himself, Walton showed no mercy.
Axe-Wielding Threat and Failed Escape
When a witness tried to step in, Walton’s rage escalated. He stormed off to his work van and brandished an axe, shouting, “I will end him.” Terrified, the victim fled to a nearby property to escape the murderous threat.
Walton then fled the scene but later handed himself over to police, where he was arrested.
Denial Falls Flat – Convicted by Jury
Despite Walton’s claims of self-defence and denying the axe threat, a jury at Maidstone Crown Court saw through his story. They delivered unanimous guilty verdicts on charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and threatening with a blade in public.
Walton was sentenced on 1 October, capping a case described by Detective Constable Ash Pennell as a “brutal and terrifying assault.”
“Wearing steel toe-capped boots, he was seen to stamp on the victim’s head at least five times. It was an utterly senseless attack which only by luck did not lead to more serious harm,” said DC Pennell.
