Overseas Lorry Driver’s Close Call After Crashing Into Trees on Titchfield Lane
An overseas lorry driver had a narrow escape on Sunday evening after his massive 40-ton refrigerated lorry smashed into overhanging trees between Titchfield and Wickham. The collision happened while the driver was following a diversion around the Titchfield Carnival and searching for a place to turn around.
Massive Lorry Gets Trapped on Narrow Road
The driver took a wrong turn onto Titchfield Lane, a narrow “B” road, where his lorry became wedged after hitting thick vegetation. The trailer was badly damaged and the overhanging trees were left unsafe and heavily damaged. Power lines also got tangled up in the mess, creating extra hazards at the scene.
Road Shut for Hours as Recovery Teams Swing Into Action
The road between 1 Lane and River Lane remains closed for hours while a major recovery and cleanup unfolds. Tree surgeons and highways officers arrived alongside specialists from Boarhunt Recovery, who brought in a six-wheel Foden truck and crane to free the lorry and clear debris.
Eyewitness Slam Road Safety Checks
“Although it’s classed as a ‘B’ road and should be passable, nobody has come through and had a look to make sure these big lorries can get through,” said a local eyewitness.
Despite the driver escaping injury, debris and insulation from the refrigerated trailer litter the road, causing further disruption and delays in the area. Locals are left wondering how such a massive lorry ended up stuck on a road clearly unfit for heavy vehicles.
