Lorry Overturns on Fareham Roundabout, Causes Massive Traffic Snarl
A refuse lorry flipped over at Fareham’s busy Delme roundabout this Tuesday morning, sparking travel chaos across the town.
Emergency Rescue Drama at 9:40am
Fire crews from Fareham and Cosham rushed to the scene off Wallington Way at around 9:40am. The driver was trapped inside the cab, forcing firefighters to smash the windscreen to free him. The major junction — a key route to the A27 and Portchester — was completely blocked during the rescue operation.
Road Shut for Hours Amid Cleanup
The road stayed closed for about three hours as recovery teams cleared the crash debris. The lorry crushed a lamp post in the smash. Luckily, no other vehicles were involved. The driver, from Gosport, suffered minor shoulder injuries.
Driver Speaks Out: “It All Went Into Slow Motion”
“It all went into slow motion. There was nothing I could do,” the driver said at the scene. “I went around the bend and the truck’s wheel gave way. It was very scary. I’ve been driving these lorries for over 25 years.”
The lorry was hauling housing rubbish destined for Aldershot before the crash.
Fareham Council Joins Cleanup Effort
Clean-up crews from Fareham Borough Council are now on site, helping to clear debris and get traffic moving again. The driver’s quick rescue and emergency response helped prevent worse injuries.
