Man Confesses in Flat Lobby, Police Find Wife’s Body
The drama unfolded on the evening of 6 April 2020, when police received a shocking call from a passerby. The man claimed that a stranger in the foyer had confessed to killing his wife. The confessor named himself as Hussein Yusuf Egal.
Officers rushed to the scene and immediately tracked down Egal, who admitted: “I killed her yesterday morning.”
Police proceeded to the couple’s flat. Strangely, the door was unlocked. Inside, they discovered Maryan’s lifeless body covered by a purple duvet. She had endured severe head trauma and multiple injuries across her body. Medics confirmed she was dead on arrival.
Investigation Reveals Disturbing Scene and No Sign of Self-Defence
A post-mortem on 8 April 2020 declared the cause of death as multiple injuries inflicted during a violent assault.
During police interviews, Egal claimed a Covid-related argument led to the fatal clash. He said Maryan urged him to move out after he showed symptoms, and that she attacked him first, forcing him to defend himself.
Det Sgt Lucy Carberry of the Met’s Specialist Crime unit said:
“The officers who discovered Maryan’s body were faced with a truly terrible scene. Maryan had suffered extensive injuries, and the disorder in the flat showed a major disturbance.”
She added:
“Egal claimed he was defending himself, but there was no sign he had any injuries.”
