Man Dies in Shocking Balham Shooting
A man has died after a late-night incident in Balham, South West London.
Armed Police and Air Ambulance Rush to Scene
Armed officers were called just before 11pm on Thursday to a property on Bedford Hill (SW12). Despite desperate efforts from armed police, paramedics, and London Air Ambulance doctors, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Murder Investigation Launched
The Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command have launched a murder probe. Bedford Hill remains sealed off with a large road cordon, and local bus services have been diverted as the road is blocked in both directions.
Paramedics are still at the scene but have been forced to leave their rapid response vehicles behind while police conduct their investigation.
Residents on Edge After Shooting
A taxi driver who lives next to the crime scene told reporters, “I feel very lucky. Normally around the time of the incident, I come home and park in the neighbour’s drive.”
“I heard the man got shot. What if it had been me? They could have mistaken me for him.”
Police dog handlers and specialist blood detection dogs have been seen sweeping the area as forensic experts comb the property and nearby road.
The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
