Man Dies After Motorcycle Crash on Southsea Pedestrian Crossing
A tragic accident unfolded on Clarence Esplanade, Southsea, Portsmouth, when a man was fatally struck by a motorcycle at around 2.15pm. The collision on the pedestrian crossing triggered a major emergency response involving multiple agencies.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Paramedics, including crews from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, were called in immediately. They worked desperately to save the man’s life, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Two people on the motorcycle sustained injuries and were treated on-site before being rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Road Closure and Police Investigation Underway
Authorities closed the road between Jack Cockerill Road and The Dell to allow emergency teams to operate safely. Hampshire Police sealed off the area, with roads policing officers launching a full investigation.
Crash investigators scoured the scene, using forensic tools to gather evidence and photograph the area. Officers spoke to eyewitnesses to piece together exactly what happened.
“His next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers at this time,” a Hampshire Police spokesperson confirmed.

One fire engine from Southsea and a support vehicle from Cosham attended shortly after the crash, assisting police and paramedics during the tense operation.
Motorists are urged to avoid Clarence Esplanade while the police continue their thorough inquiry. Alternative routes are advised as the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
