Life Behind Bars for Brutal Murderer Neculai Paizan

Neculai Paizan, 64, from Peel Street, W8, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 22 years for the chilling murder of Agnes Akom. The verdict was handed down at the Old Bailey on Monday, July 25.

Paizan was found guilty just days earlier, on Tuesday, July 19, following a hard-hitting trial.

Police Praise for Relentless Investigation

HHJ Marks hailed the “outstanding police team” who cracked the case, calling their work “police work of the highest order.” Detective Chief Inspector Neil John revealed the grim details of the attack, calling the violence “truly horrifying.”

“What she went through inside the container is unbearable to contemplate,” said DCI John. “While it’s unclear why Paizan killed Agnes, his efforts to cover up the crime show a cold calculation.”

He added that phone data investigations quickly linked Paizan and Agnes, making Paizan the prime suspect. During his testimony, Paizan spun lies to tarnish Agnes’ character, but detectives said he preyed on her vulnerabilities before brutally ending her life.

The Hunt for Agnes

Agnes, 20, also known as ‘Dora,’ was reported missing on May 11, 2021, after disappearing from Cricklewood Broadway two days prior. A specialist team took over as concern for her safety grew.

Police traced her last known movements to a shipping container on North Acton Road, identified as Paizan’s makeshift hideout. CCTV captured the pair entering the container on May 9 — but Agnes was never seen leaving.

Shocking Murder Uncovered Through Forensics and CCTV

Police found heavy padlocks on the container and discovered no one inside during an initial visit, but traced Paizan’s suspicious activity via CCTV. He was arrested after inconsistencies emerged between his statements and the visual evidence.

Forensic teams uncovered blood matching Agnes’ DNA inside the container and inside Paizan’s car. Her coat was found in a nearby skip, further linking Paizan to the crime.

Despite her body not being found initially, officers used specialist dogs to uncover human remains 36 days after Agnes vanished. A post-mortem revealed she suffered at least 20 strikes to the head.

“The extensive review of CCTV and forensic work were critical in pinpointing what happened,” said DCI John. “We charged Paizan before we found Agnes because the evidence was overwhelming.”

Paizan’s sentence sends a stark warning to those who hide behind lies and violence. Agnes’ family and friends continue to grieve the loss of a young woman who suffered unimaginably at the hands of her killer.
