Operation Brock Set to Kick In on M20 After Snow Delay

After being postponed due to heavy snow, the Operation Brock contraflow system will finally launch on the M20 in Kent early Wednesday morning, December 14. The vital traffic management plan aims to keep the motorway moving during peak hours despite looming freight chaos.

M20 Shut Overnight for Contraflow Setup

The M20 will shut from 9pm Tuesday to 6am Wednesday:

  • London-bound between junctions 9 and 8
  • Coastbound between junctions 7 and 9

This closure allows workers to install the contraflow barriers necessary for Operation Brock. Diversions will be clearly signed to help drivers navigate the disruption.

Strict Rules for HGV Drivers Heading to Dover and Eurotunnel

Once live, all heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) travelling to the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel must follow Operation Brock signs at junction 8. Ignore them and you could face a hefty £300 fine. Trying to dodge the system via the M2/A2 at Brenley Corner won’t help either — police may send you back to the end of the queue.

Local Traffic Must Follow Contraflow

Other coastbound traffic, including local freight and car drivers heading to Europe, must follow signs to cross over into the contraflow using the London-bound carriageway. Travellers planning to use Eurotunnel or Dover are urged to check with their operator and plan ahead to avoid any nasty surprises.
