Man stabbed to death in quiet North London street

Early morning tragedy in Chandos Avenue

Police were called at around 6am on Monday, 20 March after reports of an injured man on Chandos Avenue, N20. Officers and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene, but sadly, the 44-year-old victim, believed to be Romanian national Stefan Stelian Moraru, was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cause of death confirmed

A post mortem on Tuesday, 21 March revealed Moraru died from a single stab wound to the heart. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers as the investigation unfolds.

Homicide detectives on the case

Specialist Crime homicide detectives are leading the probe. No arrests have been made yet. Detective Chief Inspector Neil John urged witnesses to come forward.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was near Chandos Avenue or Whetstone High Street, N20 on Sunday, 19 March around 10.30pm,” he said. “We believe a disturbance or altercation occurred there. We’re especially keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage from these areas.”
