Authorities in Sheffield are urgently appealing for witnesses following a firearm discharge incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday, September 22.
The incident came to the attention of the police when Yorkshire Ambulance Service contacted them at 00.15 BST. to report a stabbing at a property located on Penns Road in Heeley. Officers promptly responded to the call, and upon entering the property, they discovered damage to the walls that was consistent with a firearm discharge.
The victim, a man in his 20s, is currently not cooperating with law enforcement inquiries, making it imperative to seek assistance from individuals who may have relevant information. As a result, the police are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident and observed or heard anything unusual.
Additionally, law enforcement is keen to speak with anyone who was driving past the area and might have captured footage of individuals arriving at the property on foot or in a vehicle using dash cameras. They are also interested in receiving CCTV footage covering the front of the property or the surrounding area.
Detective Sergeant Stafford Megson, from the Armed Crime Team, expressed the police’s commitment to resolving the case and providing reassurance to the local community. He stated, “Incidents of this nature will understandably be distressing for those who live nearby, and we want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of who was involved and why this happened.”
In response to the incident, there may be an increased police presence in the area over the weekend, aimed at offering support and reassurance to residents. Detective Sergeant Megson encouraged residents to approach these officers if they have concerns or information to share.
For those who may not feel comfortable speaking directly to the police, Detective Sergeant Megson highlighted an alternative avenue for providing information. “If you don’t feel comfortable talking directly to us, you can instead speak to the independent charity Crimestoppers to pass information over,” he said. “No matter how small you think it is, it could be crucial in helping us piece together what happened.”
