Cop Seriously Hurt After Hit-and-Run on Kent Road
Officer Struck on Coulter Road
At 3.16pm on Friday 26 January 2024, a police constable on foot was hit by a car near the junction of Coulter Road and Hedgers Way. The driver allegedly fled the scene. The officer sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. Thankfully, he has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
Attempted Murder Charge Made
Police arrested Barry Rossiter, 23, from Nickley Wood, Ashford, on 31 January in connection with the crash. On 3 February, the Crown Prosecution Service charged him with attempted murder, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and assaulting an emergency worker. Rossiter appeared at Maidstone Crown Court the same day and was remanded ahead of a hearing at Canterbury Crown Court on 6 February.
More Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
- Four others — two men aged 19 and 37, and another two aged 19 and 32 — were also arrested. All are from the local area and have been bailed pending further inquiries.
- A sixth man, 19, remains in custody after being arrested on 2 February.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities are urging anyone who was driving on Coulter Road, Long Length, Tally Ho Road, or Hornash Lane between 3pm and 3.30pm on 26 January to come forward — especially if they have dashcam footage.
