The heart-wrenching search for a missing five-year-old girl came to a devastating end as her lifeless body was discovered in a canal just moments after she disappeared from her home.
The young girl went missing from her residence in Islington, north London, last Saturday. Within a mere 10 minutes, the child was found submerged in the water, sending shockwaves through the community.
Members of the public, stricken with panic, swiftly retrieved the girl from the canal and attempted to resuscitate her before emergency services arrived. Despite their valiant efforts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital around 7 pm the same day, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police.
A police spokesperson recounted the tragic sequence of events, stating: “At 4:13 pm on Saturday, 17 February, we received a report that a five-year-old girl was missing from her home in Wharf Road, N1. Officers responded and searched the area. At 4:24 pm, the girl was found in a nearby canal.”
The family of the deceased child has been notified, and they are receiving support during this unimaginably difficult time.
While investigations into the incident are ongoing, authorities have indicated that the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death are not deemed suspicious.
