A desperate search ended in heartbreak after a five-year-old girl vanished from her home in Islington, north London, last Saturday — only to be found lifeless in a nearby canal just 10 minutes later.

Panic gripped locals who quickly pulled the girl from the water and tried desperately to save her before emergency crews arrived. Despite their heroic efforts, the little girl was pronounced dead at hospital around 7pm, confirmed the Metropolitan Police.

Police Confirm Tragic Timeline

“At 4:13 pm on Saturday, 17 February, we received a report that a five-year-old girl was missing from her home in Wharf Road, N1. Officers responded and searched the area. At 4:24 pm, the girl was found in a nearby canal,” said a police spokesperson.

Family Offered Support as Investigation Continues

The young girl’s family have been informed and are being supported in this unimaginably difficult time. Authorities say the death is currently not being treated as suspicious, but investigations remain ongoing.
