Massive Search Enters Third Week for Toddler Lost in River Soar
The frantic hunt for two-year-old Xielo Maruziva, who vanished after falling into the River Soar near Aylestone Meadows on February 18, has gripped the community for three tense weeks. Over 200 officers and rescue teams from across the UK have joined forces in this massive search operation.
Top Rescue Teams Battle Harsh Conditions
Emergency services, including Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, Leicestershire Search and Rescue, and the National Police Air Service, sprung into action immediately. Despite their tireless, round-the-clock efforts, Xielo remains missing, leaving his family devastated and the local community in shock.
The search has expanded far beyond the initial area. Specialist divers from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Police have dived into the murky depths, while volunteer teams from neighbouring counties have scoured the banks. Marine units from Kent, West Mercia, and the Metropolitan Police have deployed sonar gear to comb the riverbed, battling rising waters and relentless rainfall.
Experts Step In to Boost Search Efforts
Reinforcements came in the form of Specialist Group International (SGI), adding vital expertise to the already complex operation. Assistant Chief Constable Michaela Kerr praised the unwavering commitment of all involved. “This is one of the most complex and challenging search operations we’ve faced in the UK,” she said.
Sergeant Chris Haines, who’s coordinating the ground teams, also sent out heartfelt thanks to the public. Local businesses and residents have been generous, providing food and support to keep searchers going through grim conditions.
Police Urge Witnesses to Help Find Xielo
As the search presses on, police stress the need for any information that could lead to finding Xielo. The family’s pain grows by the day, and authorities are desperate for leads.
If you saw anything or have info that could help bring Xielo home, please come forward and aid the ongoing efforts.
